Bits of my weekend

Semi stressful weekend with Peter’s parents staying with us and our parents meeting each other for the first time, but it felt like it all went well in the end. We did do ENDLESS amounts of cooking, which was brilliant, but also involved a lot of washing up. Last night we had Thai take away and threw away all the dishes it came in. Very wasteful, but felt necessary.

Making fresh pasta. Very easy, but quite strenuous work! I’ll write this up soon on the My Kitchen Table blog, as it was an Antonio Carluccio recipe. The long and the short of it is that these little raviolis were freaking delicious.

Peter made pavlova, one of my favourite ever desserts. The meringue came out so beautifully, and my whipped cream (the only bit I contributed to Saturday’s meal!) was perfect…

We also had chicken and leek pie with jersey royals and fresh beans from Cornwall, and lots of wine. Sunday saw a roast chicken and roast potatoes and lashings of gravy. All and all, a very filling weekend.

After France and all the food at the weekend, my jeans are feeling especially tight. Actually, they’ve been feeling tight for months, and it’s not getting any better. So from tomorrow, I am going on the Dukan Diet. My dad has been on it for 3 weeks and has lost 12 pounds. I don’t have THAT much to lose, but have somehow managed to rope in two of my colleagues to do it with me. Let’s see how long it lasts for…
